A sorely needed lesson in core democratic principles: they are applicable to everyone, including our opponents. Every failure to reaffirm this, big or small, is a slip towards tyranny.

Sadly - and cynically - I don't see how our society can return to principle when expediency seems to be so much more effective. What Glenn Greenwald is describing is underhanded and insidious.... but it works. And despite calling it out so clearly the majority of the people consuming the news will not be exposed to what Glenn is saying and will probably never realize the manipulation being delivered to them. Turns out, cheap shots are actually really good in a fight where there is no referee.

It is likely that Reality Winner was not acting from the most ethical motives. Investigators found a diary at her house which contained plans to burn down the White House and to run off and join the Taliban.

except - that's not really what happened though [0]. So maybe now we can all agree that those core democratic principles that Greeenwald mentions are paramount?

Funny how they always complain about discomfort when the shoe's on the other foot.
