Sometimes I tell the new kids about this in terms of the differences between then and now: "No, you don't understand, I don't know all this shit because I'm awesome, I know all this because getting a computer working and online in the late 80s/early 90s required knowing just about everything. Everything. Right down to when you needed to park the fucking hard drive." It was all one big roll.
