When you respond to the "Who is hiring?" HackerNews thread as a freelancer do you put your day rate or hourly rate? Is it considered a faux par if you do? Would you feel you are competing with a race to the bottom of who can specify the lowest rate possible? How do you deal with the companies looking to hire but have very shallow pockets or unrealistic expectations, e.g. other side of the country, must be in the office by 8AM, $15/hr, wants to micromanage every line of code you will ever write?
