I'm curious about this. The letter specifically states that if you surrender it, it will be replaced with a new one with the correct sex. So, even if the SAVE act was passed, they would be able to vote with the replacement ID right?
They definitely should have put a grace period on it, seems like people had almost no warning and that is a bunch of BS.
That detail is important. Yes, they would but I guess what it would exclude is trans people unwilling to be "deadnamed" or a more appropriate term including misgendering.
It's not remotely the same, there is no recognized consensus among any scientific community that individuals can personally identify with being born in a different year and that the dissonance they feel causes harm. On the flip side, there's endless research, studies, and articles detailing gender dysphoria and even references going back through ancient times and totally widespread across different cultures and geographies. Forcing trans women to get ids labeling them as male may not cause them any inherent harm, or it may, but imagine what's going to happen as this already vulnerable group gets pulled over or attempts to vote and they don't "look" the gender on their Id? Find something more important to care about.
