Some of their other courses that looked interesting to me:

https://www.elementsofai.com/ 2 courses: Intro & Building (apparently mostly math-based, coding is optional)

https://haskell.mooc.fi

TDD w/ javascript https://tdd.mooc.fi

Programming 101 (with Scala) https://plus.cs.aalto.fi/o1/

I also started my post-university career with their 2 Java MOOCs, 5 years ago. One of the best courses I have done to this day.

Also particularly good from a Finnish university, but for Full-stack Javascript Development (Node + React) is https://fullstackopen.com/en/.

The Java MOOC's assessments are auto evaluated.

The FullStackOpen's assessments are uploaded into Github and actually evaluated by humans for free.

Both give out certifications without payment upon completion.

I also got my career start with their Java MOOC back in 2014. Highly recommend ed!

I've always found their resources particularly valuable when I really want to go deep on a subject in a way that video courses (my other preferred way to learn) don't seem to always do.

And I think they strike the right balance between academic theory and practice. For example, I'm currently going through their Cyber Security Base https://cybersecuritybase.mooc.fi/descriptions/ and it seems very thorough (i'm not a security or devsecops expert so happy to hear thoughts from those who are)

The Python MOOC is probably the best intro to programming course I've seen, period. Highly recommended, and if you happen to live here with me, it's an easy way to get a few credits at yliopisto.

Got recommended to do their Java MOOC ~10 years ago, rolled right into a job afterwards. Wouldn't be where I am today without this.

Do you recommend it doing it 10 years after?

The Java course (https://java-programming.mooc.fi/) was being updated every year until a couple years ago when they switched to Python. I did it in 2020 and it was certainly a good introduction to programming. I don't know about the new Python edition.

Their web development course is also very good: https://fullstackopen.com/en/

Seems like a lot of people admire this project. I was AFK when it hit the front page, but did it get hugged to death earlier? That's a shame if that is the reason it got demoted as much as it did.

i did the Java MOOC a few years ago. I didn't know what to do after the class though, so it didn't feel like a good use of time.

It seems to just be the landing page that's down. The course pages themselves still work.

Could you share a link to the courses pages? I haven't visited the university site before.

The courses page is also down. It's the pages of individual courses that are still up; it looks like they're hosted in separate subdomains. We'd need a list of links to all the course pages. Doesn't really help if they're up if we don't know which ones are available.
