I feel like the money is a side benefit, and what they really wanted was to verify that their basic no-controllers VR/AR paradigm works in the (relatively speaking) mass market before putting the next 10 years of R&D into it.


It doesn't seem like this will prove much about using controllers either way though, given how few games and other content there are.
