> It would take at least 400 dedicated rocket launches a year, for ten years... The project would weigh in at 550,000 tons: at its lightest.

That's quite the scale.

> The solar sail model, to its credit, is capable of being dismantled if things go wrong.

I'm sensing a potential issue here...

No. To Fight global warming* we must stop drilling oil and gas.

Fancy futuristic magic tech isn't going to save us.

This sounds like the flying-cars-solves-traffic BS: dark PR funded by the Fossil Fuel industry.

To your footnote, you're not wrong, but climate change is a better and more encompassing description for what people experience: more extreme weather, be it heat, cold, precipitation or drought. We can't feel an average temperature rise of 1.5 degrees, but I can certainly tell you that we just experienced the hottest summer peak temperatures on record.

So what if we can't stop drilling, or can't do that soon enough?

We're trying for quite some time already, we see some results of our attempts, it's probably a good question to ask.

Seems like climate change is a meme which deranges the adopters into thinking this kind of planetary alteration is good.

Your attitude reminds me of the religious fundamentalists I grew up with, who were still arguing about "evolutionism" and expressing skepticism over the idea of geological time as recently as the '80s and '90s.

You inferred too much
