Groceries will take a little bit to generate a ML model and even then it’ll get better over time as it learns more niche stuff based on where you place it.

Pet detection requires a bit more time as it builds the ML model and crawls through your photos, progress towards that is typically only done overnight while it’s on the charger.

Siri trigger word is English only (Australia, Canada, UK and US).

For the photos it'll likely take a little while for the service to rescan all your photos for the newly recognized items. Leave your device plugged in for best performance there.

This took a short time to kick in for me after I updated. Make sure the list is set as a "Groceries" list type, and try adding something to the list.

It’s indeed working now. This is exactly what I did previously (3 times precisely), but now it works. Maybe the update doesn’t actually update everything, just the bare minimum and completes the rest in background.

Your OS is now updated. the updated applications that comprise iOS 17 then have to check and update the data, particularly in cases where other devices tied to iCloud also require updating. It is likely that if you also have a Mac or iPad that isn't using the most recent point releases, the lists or the Photos will not update to the new behavior.
