Am I the only one who remembers that these exact same predictions were made 20 years ago when cell phones started to become more and more ubiquitous? "There aren't enough raw materials on the planet, if every Indian and Chinese person wanted to buy a mobile phone. And think of how much energy that would require - that'd essentially mean the end of the world!" Anyone?
Spot on. Every time some new technology arises, the doomsayers raise the alarm. When the problem becomes imminent, society / technology generally finds a way to address most of the downsides
duh. As if EVs are the solution to our climate woes. EVs are a better option, the best option would be no V. Mobile work, dependable and sufficient public transport network as well as sufficient car sharing, ample biking infrastructure, are the way forward in order to reduce car dependency.
In the end, I don't want to be forced to own a car like I am now. If there are better options to get from A to B than by car I will gladly use them.
There isn't a single solution. With that kind of reasoning, you'll essentially end up doing nothing.
Ground traffic amounts to around 20 - 25 % of all carbon output. A significant portion of the lifecycle emissions of just about any product also comes from ground transport, so it makes a lot of sense to swap most of it to electric rather sooner than later.
Immediately after claiming there isn't a single solution, you went on to offer only a single solution, while dismissing the several solutions offered by the parent.
