Lovely article, and makes me wonder how the python ecosystem would look today if green threads won out over asyncio.

That said I do believe it's too late for this to change; for most people all that you really need to understand is the async and await keywords to take advantage of asyncio.

Needing to know all of these other patterns to use gevent.. ehhh. It's an uphill battle for gevent to remain relevant.
