Speaking as an ex-scientist, I think Youtube really made some terrible decisions around this. Specifically, there has to be a mechanism by which legitimate scientists and doctors can communicate in good faith to the public, even if the message contradicts what the public health officials want the message to be.
But then, I've seen plenty of examples in the scientific community where the prevailing establishment tamps down on new ideas that later turn out to be right (see: almost anything involving RNA, ever)
