A couple months ago this interesting writeup on the development of this game was posted to HN:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28958140

I wanted to read it, but I figured I'd read the short story first, and I also wanted to see what the game had to offer too, since the article is a tad spoiler-y. I sat with that article open in a tab for the past 2 months until I finally made the time to read through the short story a couple days ago, and yesterday I watched a full playthrough of the game. This morning I finally read the article, read the HN discussion, and not a few minutes later I get a notification on my phone from a "free game alerts" Twitter account that the game was free on GOG. Strange!

Even if you're not interested in playing the game, the short story can be read online for free, and it's pretty fantastic. Give it a look, if you haven't!

If you like old adventure games, filfre.net is an amazing blog to follow. The entire backlog of articles is great to dig through. Edit: I’m currently in the middle of a playthrough of the game and also have the article open in a tab. :)

Well, that's a bit disappointing.

FWIW, I have downloaded a couple of games from GOG over the years, both free ones and paid ones, and they send me emails only very rarely.

It might be different this time, but their track record so far is pretty good.

(Also, I think you can revoke that consent in your account settings, but I haven't looked into that, so it's pure speculation.)

Surely you must have more than one email address?

You can unsubscribe right after claiming it, by going into your GOG profile settings.

I don't even bother hunting for checkboxes to turn off when making accounts anymore. Any email they send I just instinctively mark as spam.

Technically yes, but it's placed in the fine print which is of course will be missed by some people.
