Yes. Divorces are costly. But they are cheaper in the long run. Mine set me back a quarter of a million dollars, and that was in 1988 dollars.
Ten years later and I wanted to send my first wife a 'Ten-Year-Anniversary Thank-You card' for leaving me. But my second wife wouldn't let me. (Said it was 'a bit tacky'.)
The other surprising thing about costs was that my second wife's first husband took her to court for lots of stuff. My first wife and I had a fairly amicable divorce. But our lawyer's fees for the two divorces were practically the same.
