Because this thing is plastic. It is struggling enough already. There is a reason printers used metal rather than wood blocks.

My suggestion is purely intended to improve ergonomics, not to actually push the device to its breaking point, but I see how that could be a problem.

Wood is pretty common for type, especially poster sizes, and there are some hobbyists still who use it for engravings
