I'd be pretty a-okay with it as long as that tax goes directly to Covid relief: PPE, vaccines, eviction assistance, etc. If they're high enough value to increase the risk for so many incidental people along the way, they're also high enough value to financially support those additional risks.


Since money is fungible, it's not meaningful to say that money from tax X goes to service Y. The amount raised by a ticket surcharge would be trivial compared to spending on covid.
