Much history rewriting here. The author is wrong about mobile use cases not being thought about when IPng was being worked on. I remember hearing talks about how to interoperate across wireless lans and WANs, seamlessly, at the same IETF meeting events. Wireless LANs existed back then and so did Wireless WAN services. They were just slower and more expensive than today's and of course not widely used. The first wireless WAN I used with TCP/IP on a laptop was in 1994 FWIW. 8kbits/s.
