threads federates with mastodon, what stops threads getting on the AT protocol? is it just their assumed desire to not share data? they could be a mastodon / AT bridge

There are a couple. They’re… shaky, but they exist.

from the headline alone I got linkedin ceo vibe. "Built a Self-Healing System to Survive a Concurrency Bug" is how I could describe wrapping a failing method in a retry loop

Put in a couple more if statements checking the output of rand(), call it AI, and you'll be CEO in no time!

i made a similar reply, linking to the ideas of flow state etc [1]. i dont know why you'd chase the feeling of effort, surely you'd avoid the feeling of effort where possible without reducing learning

I don't often read instruction manuals, but this time I did and I found this gross easter egg

oh god

'dont' was implied, though apparently not inferred

"not in any way similar to coding" is a very strong statement

many people feel it feels similar to coding, in the way you have to slowly refactor designs + work involves a recursive breakdown of tasks + tracing/debugging of issues

i also hated the graphics, but once you play it for a bit the graphics melt away and you can see the beauty in the details they have

what i like about this is that it implies you can build heuristics good enough to make it to GM level. this is great because i find calculating moves a headache

The thing is the heuristic done by a huge network might be insanely complex and doing all kinds of calculations. it's just that it's one function call so we ignore all those calculations. It's not immediately obvious that deploying a transformer to solve for next best move means that a human mind can avoid difficult calculations and just play by gut.

There's just too much wordplay going on with "heuristic"

Arguably intuition and gut feeling are also insanely complex systems doing all kinds of calculations.

Sure, but apples and oranges have a lot in common too, and if we call everything fruit, it's unnecessarily hard to differentiate them ... is all I'm saying.

reminds me of the way dubai auctions off the 3 digit car license plates, then hotels do things like only letting low number license plates park out front

Brilliant move, then use the money to support those that are less well off. You can have the ultra-rich bragging about how much they paid, while those that need it most are benefitting. A real win-win.

yep, iirc on the huberman podcast on testosterone it even said that the competition that's decided by society has an impact on t-levels. societies that make prosocial / win-win games for men obv end up better off

awesome! i am also exploring “low effort language learning” space and making an app. would be interested in bouncing some ideas, got a social handle to share?

Yep, my Discord account is `alexc.j`

it happens because you have one component logging everything for traceability, and it hosts the interconnect between 2 other components which need to communicate passwords. thus the password accidentally slips into a plain text log file

generally there are tools that search for & flag PII logging, if it slips through the tools its because there are layers of indirection involved
