I think rather than collapse it may get filtered down more. I've already got ad blockers and some similar stuff like fbpurity which removes the sponsored nonsense from facebook. LLM type AI might help there by filtering down to things you are interested in and connecting with real friends rather than the junk that commercial algos push at you.

Thinking about it, your eyes, not using a monitor, will adjust naturally be be ok with seeing light to dark objects around you so it makes sense for the screen brightness to be in that range. I think probably people who get headaches from white screens have it brighter than that range. I mean people don't generally get issues from white paint on walls and the like.

I suppose either things continue for the next decades like they have for the previous few, which I guess is the most likely, or the regime gets overthrown which I find hard to see happening without foreign military intervention.
