Cool stuff but i've never seen much come out of these kinds of things. Crowd sourced surface pressure application will bring in so many observations the forecasts will be improved 30%. Fuck no.
So you really think you can launch a giant network of balloons and have that data integrated into the NOAA/NCEP model suite? Even if you get over the red tape it will take 10 years + to integrate this shit into the data assimilation program. You claim that you can input your balloon data into magical AI and it produces better forecasts than what the GFS? What is the standard of measurement I dont actually believe you at all
Weather soundings play a part in making a forecast but it's not the only thing? Many times per day we collect weather station data, correlate against past forecasts, bias correct, etc.
Forecasts are made of so much input data it's insane, yes balloons matter but it's not the only thing. They are the only decent source of conditions aloft and the jet stream is main controller of our surface weather so it makes sense.
What should i do if my SO is the snorer and i'm the light sleeper? Right now I just wake up after 3-5 hours every night and move to different bed for the remaning hours of sleep.
What actions will get you the most sleep? Some ideas:
- Ask them to get a sleep study
- Ask them to wear a breathe right strip
- Start sleeping in a different room instead of switching halfway throughout the night.
have them get a sleep study. If they have sleep apnea it's slowly killing them. It's really important to get that treated. Be patient with the machine, try various options, like sleep tape, and what not, but the machine is AMAZING if you can sleep with it on.
First time I slept with it on I woke up at 4:00am after having the best sleep of my life and was ready to go. It's amazing what a real nights sleep can give you.
It doesnt predict rainfall so i doubt most of us will actually care about it until then. Still it depends on input data (the current state of weather etc). How are we supposed to accurately model the weather at every point in the world? Especially when tech bro Joe living in San Fran expects things to be accurate to a meter within his doorstep
Hate to break it but one weather station wont improve a forecast? What are they supposed to do? Ignore the output of our state of the art forecast models and add an if statement for your specific weather station??
Funny to mention. None of the AI forecasts can actually predict precip. None of them mention this and i assume everyone thinks this means the rain forecasts are better. Nope just temperature and humidity and wind. Important but come on, it's a bunch of shite
I'm actually not surprised that people think 'AI' can fix everything including weather prediction. I've heard about AI machine learning forecasts for 10+ years now, waiting for one of them to be actually used in industry...
This aint a retail product recommendation. If the AI makes a bad choice it will cost millions/billions of dollars and we could lose many MANY lives.
> I've heard about AI machine learning forecasts for 10+ years now, waiting for one of them to be actually used in industry...
The problem is that they offer little to no advantage over the highly optimized ML-based forecast post-processing systems widely in use in the industry. You see an awful lot of hype from start-ups proclaiming their AI forecasts are "the most accurate ever"... when in reality they barely improve at all over the status quo that can be achieved with rather simple statistical modeling.
