Education isn't broken, it's gotten too conservative and not able to keep up as a result.

Manufacturers don't do torpedo heaters outside of campers because they are a PITA. You need to find a place for the fuel tank and the fuel receptacle, for the heater itself, and you need an exhaust that requires clearance. And for a heater integrated into regular airflow routing it gets even more complex.

Indeed - both heaters (torpedo and whatever the jeep had) blew hot air "around" and were not integrated into the vents. I think the jeep unit just drew from the gas can - not sure about the torpedo heater, but they were very economical for the amount of heat they produced.

-40 (air temperature - not windchill) is nothing to mess with. The instant heat from a battery pack is great if you're always close to charging, but there's absolutely no way I'd head into the wilderness in winter with just an EV.

Sounds like a stock EV is not for you, or the very close to 0% of the world's population with similar needs.

That's ok.

Just like a ton of other autoimmune diseases.

Psoriasis sufferer checking in. Brutal.

You might want to check out the low vitamin a crowd. Some weirdos in there, but we all do very well. Seems to help with many autoimmune disorders (for me: allergies and nightly urination almost gone).

I'd like for conditions that lead to people not feeling the need to become criminals in the first place.

Which means, housing first, end the war on drugs, provide access to mental and physical healthcare, provide a reasonable living minimum wage and some sort of UBI for those that fall through the cracks.

Research shows that boosting income and medical coverage does not reduce crime.

https://cityjournal.substack.com/p/does-poverty-cause-crime-...

But Sam Altman, our AI savior, wants UBI. https://www.ycombinator.com/blog/basic-income

He's telling you that so you'll quiet down about the economic destruction even half-assed AI promises to wreak. But that same AI will end up powering the anti-personnel drones when you realize the UBI isn't coming.

Oh, you didn't read the AI savior sarcasm. Or realize he's already back tracked on that.

Anyone that's actually worked a day in their life knows it's all bullshit. Yet Texans keep being the gullible voters they are, giving Sam, Dario, Elon, Mark, and Trump's kids everything they want while their own communities suffer more and more.

Andrew Yang is so upset with you right now.

31 months for that is ridiculously low, especially with the rising prevalence of stochastic terrorism.

31 months is extremely high given that the same country let off a guy who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl with zero prison time for the two offenses combined.

To add to this, she only served 40% of her sentence before being released.

"Stochastic terrorism" accusations and charges only seem to flow in one direction.

> “Kill those motherfuckers. Let the streets soak in their red, capitalist blood, dude.” - Hasan Piker on landlords

That Hasan guy is American right? Unsurprisingly British laws need not apply.

I don't think that statement would go down too well here, but even then context is very important for incitement to violence. Considering people were and did set fire to hotels I think it was worthwhile investigating.

> context

A guy Hasan didn't like got shot in the neck during a public debate. A pair of Jewish embassy workers were gunned down while walking to a museum. A health insurance company CEO was shot outside of a hotel. I could go on.

In the UK there was an attempted murder when someone attacked a protestor burning a Koran, but luckily the UK authorities convicted the victim of the attack with "asking for it"[1] so justice was served.

GB news is slop, you get to decide if you're misinformed or malicious.

The victims fine was overturned and the attacker was convincted, justice system working as intended: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9v7wlj3pr2o

Hasan is still not British.

How are the Russians going to pay us though? Their economy is in shambles, Europe is busy divesting itself from fossil fuels, and their foreign currency/gold reserves are dwindling fast. And Russia as a whole will need to pay serious reparations.

> How are the Russians going to pay us though? Their economy is in shambles, Europe is busy divesting itself from fossil fuels, and their foreign currency/gold reserves are dwindling fast.

First: Gas is gonna stay reasonably valuable for Europe in the near future, even if electrification of personal transport progresses very quickly.

And there are tons of other valuable ressources Russia has: Nickel, copper, aluminium, steel, ...

> And Russia as a whole will need to pay serious reparations.

I don't see that happening at all. Who is gonna enforce that? Ukraine would be happy enough if they just left.

The EU pays more than 1 billion EUR each month to Russia for their fossil fuels (more specifically, 1.2bn in August, 1.5bn in July). Countries leading are Hungary, Slovakia, France, Bulgaria and then Spain. And those are just direct purchases that we know about. Fossil fuels purchased from other countries might include Russian flows as well.

At the same time, much is made of various sanction packages, which are minuscule in comparison to these flows.

In other words, the EU finances the bombs that will be falling on EU countries in the future.

BTW, Russia will never pay any reparations.

> Europe is busy divesting itself from fossil fuels

Nowhere near fast enough. The number of senior businesspeople who'd sell out the Baltic states in exchange for cheap gas is far too high.

Probably 100% of them. Only they don't realize it won't stop with the Baltic countries either - so no cheap gas even in that case.

"the US" is stretching it hard when it comes to the Iran war. In the US government under Trump, there are a lot of different interests...

- you got Kushner and his ilk who basically wants to flatten Gaza to turn it into a real estate hotspot to make untold amounts of money

- you got the Evangelical nutcases who legitimately believe that this mess is a holy war and will bring back Jesus [1]

- you got your usual old-school falcons, MIC lobbyists etc. that stand to make a lot of money and/or want this war to happen for ideological reasons

- you got a ton of isolationists who want "an end to the US wars that cost taypayer money"

- you gotTrump himself who openly admires strongmen and (wannabe) dictators, and I think it's fair to classify Netanyahu as both.

And that is a loooot of different to incompatible interests to balance against each other.

[1] https://theconversation.com/evangelical-holy-war-why-some-ch...

Absolutely, but there were several instances where the US, regardless of how disparate the interests in it are, was more or less at the negotiating table and then Israel started blowing stuff up.

Trump doesn't want negotiations and deals with Iran. He wants to conquer it and make it a puppet state.

If he actually wanted a deal in place to limit nuclear ambitions and proliferation, he wouldn't have thrown it away in the first place.

they are probably referring to NordStream likely being done by Ukrainians, when the primary suspect was Russia for a long time as they could now claim force majeure to get out of delivery contracts in Germany.

Maybe this would force people to look what they are buying and demand better.

The problem is they use exploitative labor practices (as we're seeing here) and price-dumping funded by infinite amounts of venture capital. It sets customer expectations to unsustainably low pricing and it forces restaurants to either heavily subsidise their own delivery drivers to keep customer prices low or, because barely anyone can sustain that, to shut down their own delivery service and use <gig company> instead.

And that in turn gives doordash, uber eats and whatnot access to a lot of data - who orders what and lives where or which restaurant is doing good and which is struggling - that can be sold to third parties. Governments (ICE and other agencies have been caught to just buy data from aggregators), advertisers, credit reporting agencies, political parties, you name it.

Sure. As a customer the value that doordash et al provide is hard to understate. A single point of contact, a single set of credentials, a unified UI compared to what used to be a ton of never-updated garbage wordpress installs, reliable tracking... but as a whole, we all lose.
