I don't understand these types of comments. It's clear you don't value the features Immich provides. Can you not imagine someone else valuing them?
What are you trying to communicate to us? Maybe you are just trying to tell people that they can get away with simpler solution if all they care about is unscheduled photo backup. If so, I feel there is a less antagonistic way for you to say it.
The only thing I wanted to communicate is that "easier than ever" shouldn't be anywhere in the article. Neither should really the part about saving money, but others have mentioned it, so I don't have to.
Otherwise I think Immich seems like a cool project, and I hope they're successful.
I added the part about putting photos in a folder, to at least contribute with a different solution, which for me has worked very well for very long.
The 11 series has a new MediaTek modem compared to previous Pixels(since 7 I think?). The old modem had power efficiency issues during poor cellular signal as well as a relatively lengthy GPS lock acquisition.
I don't think there is enough evidence yet about either but I can attest that GPS feels improved over my 7. It's only been 1 week though.
The non-Pro 11 has a much larger photo sensor and has more base storage. Everyone has different priorities. I'm not saying which is better but trying to give a more complete picture.
Yeah the camera seems to better which could be deciding to some people. But while the base storage has increased the price did too, so a base 265gb might cost the same as an upgraded one from 128gb.

In an alternative world with no unified connector, you also likely don't have the required cable. The result is the same.
It's just that in this world, the worst case scenario happens a lot less. There is often a fallback when you don't have the required cable and you get some functionality. But, most people most of the time the cable they have does what is needed.
You can still use the cable that came with the device. Are there a lot of manufacturers who are shipping cables that are not sufficient for their device?
And if the complaint is that cables are the same color, can they not be labeled? Everyone who wants different cables should just treat their USB-C cables as different cables. They get everything they want and the people who want the benefits of mixing cables (at the cost of them sometimes not working) can get what they want.
I think you’re technically right, but the point of the connector is to indicate what it will work with. It’s all well and good until you grab one of the white or black cables and put the wrong one bacj.

No, we get a bunch of cables which share a connector that pretend they’re interconnectable when they’re not. At a glance, my phone, MacBook and toothbrush cables are identical. I don’t want have to tell my wife or anyone who visits “don’t use the second charger from he left”
It sounds like the issue is mostly your CarPlay cars small screen compared to Tesla's large one. This didn't seen to be a CarPlay problem beyond maybr Apple trying their best with the screens most of their customers are given.

we are as a whole responsible for making the world a better place. everyone with their capacity and their ability to do something. now, i am not trying to judge what you are doing, nor am i suggesting you are not doing enough already. that's not the point. by living in the US you are however in a better position to work on this particular cause than i am living elsewhere. not because you are responsible in the sense of being guilty, but you, and everyone else in the US, is responsible in the sense of there being a wrong that needs to be righted.

Why you would compare a minivan to a compact SUV in terms of mass? The Sienna and Odyssey both weight ~4500 lbs. That's more or the same as the Grand Highlander or Pilot, both mid-size SUVs. Compact SUVs typically weight in the 3500-4000 lb range.
It's true that full size SUVs and trucks weigh even more though.
What is the physical mechanism that would cause a vehicle hitting a more massive vehicle to be worse than the same vehicle hitting a wall at the same speed? My understanding is the impulse is greater in the wall collision. It feels like a wall is the ideal test. I know there has been talk of getting the NHTSA to test offset frontal collisions, but it would still be stationary.
Regardless, I'm sorry that happened to your family. I would fear for mine if a similar thing happened. The arms race of ever more massive vehicles is an unfortunate social dilemma problem.

That’s not the comparison to draw. It should be why is hitting a more massive car worse than hitting a smaller car? The answer is in the physics of the collision and momentum.
Against a solid wall the advantage belongs to neither big nor small. The collision physics is identical, bar crumple zones and vehicle deformation.
That gets into my second quip about minivans. The rear row is unsafe since there is hardly any trunk.
I think you are being needlessly antagonistic here. I think they were simply stating that we, collectively, would benefit from prioritizing vaccine development more than we currently do. Perhaps they felt stating that would in some way convince others that this is true and maybe more people would vote for it.

Netflix used to define the ratings as "Hated It", "Didn't Like It", "Liked It", "Really Liked It", and "Loved It". I didn't find it difficult to memorize.
What's to stop you from applying whatever textual descriptions you want to the numbers?
Because I might apply different ones, making them useless in aggregate if I assume anything I like has to be a 4 or 5, but you assume that you'll rate anything you like as low as a 2, and reserve just 1 for "don't watch it"
This is why the Uber/Lyft rating system is effectively useless. Five stars is basically "was not unsafe", and four and below indicate significant safety, cleanliness, rudeness, or other problems.
If each star rating had a textual description of what it meant, and drivers didn't have to maintain something like a 4.3 (or whatever it is) in order to stay on the platform, the ratings would actually mean something.
Then you have my girlfriend who rates everything a 3/5 because it's average or to be expected. 4/5 for particularly good service. And nobody gets a 5/5.
This is why I never fill out my car dealership's service department surveys. I'm not going to give a normal oil change visit 10/10 in every category because that's simply bullshit. Giving anything less gets my service advisor punished for not delivering excellent service.
I'm honest with him and tell him exactly why I won't be filling it out. If I do ever fill one out, he'll know exactly why before I send it in.
That’s still the way the star ratings appear when I watch Netflix using my 2013 Samsung Blu-ray player. For the first few years of watching Netflix, I would religiously rate films and TV show (even those I’ve already seen in the cinema) to help its recommendation engine but it didn’t really help much.
They stated why. If you allow people with the means to do so to opt-out of a system, they do not participate in the system. The system now loses the governance and to some degree resources of those people with means.
More specifically, rich families put their kids through private schools and abandon the public school system. Without skin in the game, they vote to reduce the budget of the public school system. Rich families generally have more time and resources to spend being involved in the schools. They won't be spending those resources advocating for improving the public school systems. Additionally, their kids, who are well-cared for and come from a family who values education, do not form a peer group with the other less fortunate kids. This deprives those kids of better peers to model.
Now, you can argue that the freedom of and benefits to the rich families trumps the benefits that the poorer families would receive, but there is a greater good argument.
I've seen it argued that universal social programs are generally seen to work better and are more popular compared to means-tested ones. For example, Medicare and social security vs Medicaid and TANF.
