Getting linux to work flawlessly on M Macs is "just a bunch of scripts"? Wow. Since when tech folks judge the open-source projects so harsh and so much just after they only started?
On the off chance this isn't just trolling: Getting linux to work on M-series Macs was a ton of work and basically none of it was done by the folks behind Omarchy. Exactly the point being made in this argument and elsewhere is that the funding would be better off going to the people who really did the hard parts of that work (e.g. Ashai developers among others)
You might be missing most recent tweets, where there is ton of progress from omarchy team in this area. Also they have a dedicated team now working full time just on that.
Omarchy went and sponsored vaxry so he's able to work on Hyprland full time for 3+2 years, hired Quickshell creator outfoxxed and a kernel developer, sponsored upstream projects like mise, and tried to offer resources to Arch/AUR, who refused them.
And like the other poster said, they are actively working on M series support (building on Asahi's excellent work, of course) and making concrete progress.
On a side note. How do people deal with all the ugly mess birds cause in such settings? I'd love to have such thing but seeing all the white stuff on glass door does not really feel fun to me overall.
What do you mean specifically? These birdsong analyzers are sensitive enough that they do not rely on setting up a feeder. It’s obviously dependent on where you live, but in the Nordics, living outside city centres is good enough for both background noise and birdsong from nearby trees/parks/forests. Privacy matters aside, setting a mic up on a balcony or window is enough. Another solution is feeding data from a cheap security camera with a mic through wifi. This way the camera can stay outside in different weather, it’s not super close to you actual living area and splitting audio from the RTSP stream should be relatively easy to be analyzed by BirdNET.
Well I specifically meant having a bird feeder on a window or glass door for a chance to watch them live closely. That's why I put it as a side note ;)

Yeah that’s definitely going to be messy. Based on your region, there should hopefully be generic security cams that can even work with a batter and solar. That combined with wifi if it can reach your house can hopefully steer the blast zone way further :D There’s a few TP-Link cameras on discount around 100€ that have 2k res. Feels a lot easier this way rather than taping together a weatherproof box for various components like the Pi and a mic. So far I’ve only used a plug-powered one since I have a IP-rated socket outside and the TP-link cam has a magnet for my wall. Hope you find a nice solution!
Sounds like you've got birds crashing into the door? That's often something that can be improved (with stickers or hanging decorations) that make the glass more perceptible to the birds. (Another thing that sometimes helps is having bushes or shrubs, or even potted plants, in sight of the feeder - most small birds will use a "staging area" and fly somewhere nearby first, "check out the scene", and then fly to the feeder from there; it doesn't really control the activity, but it adds some options.)
Well, it is about LLMs and humans I believe. Don't forget that the first nuclear bomb tests were let go despite some of the scientists' concerns about possibility of dooming the world as they were not sure about all reactions that would happen.
With LLMs we don't even hesitate to call it black box while still pushing its capabilities.
My delineation is an argument for greater caution and agency, which it appears you are also arguing for.
I also mean to say that "LLMs" carry no inherent harm to humans. To make an LLM dangerous, humans must make it so. Is that the goal? This has implications for how to read TFA.
I wonder if and eventually when it will be possible for models to escape through a self-programmed ethernet adapter into the power grid. That could an end to any control over them.
I wonder if this is a native/non-native English reader situation. I'm the latter and for me the title promised that I will read about a server that now is capable of letting a person call to order a pizza. That was immediate thought.
It would be very interesting to see a poll results on how many of us thought that the article is about a server doing phone stuff and not a phone doing server stuff.
I don't think so either, as a native English speaker, I originally read this as my server now has phone capabilities, not my phone is now being used as a server.
I don't think it is, I'm also the latter and happened to assume the opposite. The article was exactly what I expected from the title.
I mean, turning a server rack into a phone just isn't something that makes any sense, so it didn't seem like a valid option to consider. I've thrown it at a few LLMs now to see what happens and they also make the same assumption with no extra info, that it's a server now being hosted on a phone. That's the statistics talking. It's very unlikely to be the opposite.
Of course it's clear which is more likely in this specific case, but from the semantic structure I read (present tense) it the other way around. It actually struck me as a grammatical error when I first read (past tense) it.
If I said "my water is ice now," one would assume freezing rather than melting.
So in this case one would assume a server became a phone, when actually a phone became a server.
I think most of the time you’d play with the order it would be for comic effect, like someone saying “my dinner is pretzels now” after having too big a snack.
In this case you have enough implicit context to correctly infer the meaning, but the particular sentence construction strongly implies that the server can now make phone calls.
