Our car API is similar to what Smartcar does but we are 100% focussed on EVs. On top of the EV API we are also building tools for smart charging, dynamic load balancing and charging scheduling for fleets. We are compatible across the US and Europe.
Optiwatt’s mission is to reduce global warming and accelerate electric vehicle adoption by making ownership cheaper and ensuring our grid can handle the additional electric load. To achieve this, we are building the world’s most valuable network of connected and controlled electric vehicle load.
Here’s what you’ll be working on:
- Scheduling charging times to reduce CO2 emissions
- Coordinating charges to balance the grid’s electric load
- Building features for electric vehicle owners
- Supporting additional electric vehicles (yes, you’ll get a say in what we add next)
- Integrating solar and storage devices

Hi HN, six months ago I met a fellow dev who wanted to focus on reducing global warming and encouraging people to drive electric. So we quit our jobs as software developers to focus full-time on building an app that would help.
We recently launched what we’ve been working towards, Charge Scheduling for Optiwatt, www.getoptiwatt.com, a 100% free app that automatically schedules your Tesla to charge during the cheapest electricity rates and tracks your exact spending.
We spent months organizing utility data so that users can automatically integrate their electricity rate schedules based on their zip code without having to dig through utility bills.
Our goal is to reduce our reliance on dirty coal plants that get fired up during high demand by helping users track their consumption and automatically charge during off-peak hours.
Here at Optiwatt, we are building the brain between the grid and electric vehicle charging. We offer a free app that automatically schedules electric vehicles to charge during off-peak rates in order to save money and reduce grid load.
We are a small startup located in San Francisco, California. Our team is made up of software focused environmental enthusiasts who love solving large scale energy problems.
We are looking for a frontend / mobile developer to help us launch our current web app on mobile.
Anything - green screens, Excel spreadsheets, PDF generation, Docusign, tying 6 web experiences with separate logins into one, simplification of complex auth scenarios, etc.
Most of my day is literally just getting one step further and one step further into a "process" of some sort, and then handling a metric boatload of edge-cases as they come up. Then the last portion of the contract is the actual integration into a business, and handling the "ninety-ninety" rule that always ends up happening when the rubber meets the road.
I take a complex, convoluted mess and turn it into a coherent "something", usually an API or web experience.
I'm curious how you market yourself or your services? I automate processes, workflows and tasks like this for some clients and I really enjoy it. It's easy to see the value I provide and the clients are happy. However I struggle with how to acquire new/more clients. The ones I have now I've acquired through past business relationships. I'd love to be able to do more of this work.
Would it be possible to create a desktop app that acted as a third party chrome extension store? Chrome let's you installed developer zip files without needing approval, could you make a desktop app that automatically downloaded the latest version and uploaded it to all devices as a zip file in chrome?

I'm thinking of making Firefox next, seems to be in highest demand. But I want to get it fine tuned on just one platform before making it for other browsers, especially because I'm pushing updates almost daily.
