looks like a pretty lousy mace to be honest

I think it looks pretty awesome, unless you are referring to it's effectiveness as a weapon...?

No. The spikes are pulled toward the magnet (ferromagnetism) whereas superconductivity is repelled by the magnet (diamagnetism.)

which is happening in room https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A for decades, all https traffic has been stored, and ones that use rsa (most of them) will retroactively be unveiled once we have shor's algorithm

is there some kind of gaming going on where everything this guy posts gets to the front page? he has 11 front page low-quality posts in 14 days

Looking at the history, I don't think so (though he has high karma value, I don't know if that is considered by the algo since it's secret). His failure rate is pretty typical. He just submits a lot of posts.

No I'm talking about the blog author

Nothing about the 4-paragraph blog posts he makes is advanced. It is in fact a remarkably basic lesson of "monitor your services" that even a 16 year old developer would know. I think he is just used to talking down to idiots because of his job, maybe.

No offense to the dude if he happens to be reading this, but less quantity and more quality please. I'm sure you're very smart.

Alternatively, maybe HN can let us blacklist domains?

additionally this is atomic (well, as in it's one command, it's not atomic internally)

In what way is it atomic? “One command” doesn’t have anything to do with being atomic.

yes it does? consider running a bash script, or piping commands over ssh. if you lose the connection only the first command might send. (bash is line and command oriented of course, so this is pretty obvious...)

I don’t think atomic operations mean what you think it does.

I'm not even sure I want to know what nightmare bug would cause someone to consider if that was atomic or not!

> Psilocybin is able to instantly turn off an addiction, and it is not addictive itself.

please don't share misinformation like this so confidently. was just yesterday in an AA meeting with someone who tried psilocybin and it made him relapse.

the only way to turn off an addiction is sobriety

> Isn’t most of the modern web dependent on JavaScript?

most modern web developers are very dumb

c.f. tailwind

Kinda off topic, but what's so dumb about tailwind?

not "the" alternative but yes they are competitors

what about this design is elegant? duping all your commands so some can have variable interpolation and some of them don't, so people don't need to do that trivial task themselves? essentially upstreaming a bunch of difficult to maintain cruft, instead of easy to maintain downstream?

possibly the log value was reduced to just a string when it crossed an api boundary or something?
