> yes, you can own property, start a business, not everyone is an alcoholic who fights bears etc there

Not American, but as the only Russians i met were "security detail" from Crimea and as my mother used to help Georgians exiles between 2005 and 2015, i would put asterisk everywhere in your sentence except at "who fight bears".

Seems a lot like simpson paradox.

> It has the disadvantage of excluding outsiders

And pacifists (see leon Blum in 1914).

And people who generally don't agree or arn't part of the national imagination, but nevertheless are part of the nation (southern USSR around WW2?).

In general the nationalism of the general population is easy to exploit for people who don't care and have the power to do so.

> The roots of the modern NRA were actually founded by Black Panthers attempting to defend their communities.

Yes! And the roots of the Black Panther movement were using open carry to intimidate police officers into behaving. It was really interesting to me to learn about the Black Panther movement and story, and i think BLM activists should all read historians point of view about what part of the BP movement actually scared Hoover, and implement the same things. And hope that the next Fred Hampton won't get assassinated this time around

I'm not pro-gun at all in my country because it isn't needed imho, but i think until the US solve its social class issues, open carry is needed.

Cool to see someone else is as interested in the story as I am!

I think you're right, and there are many within the BLM movement who are doing exactly what you describe.

Much like any large social movement there's a bunch of different ppl doing a bunch of different things, and with various levels of engagement and seriousness.

Maybe? Until the fishing right are denounced by France and the deal vetoed?

Honestly, i think they will be a war between Brittany and britain's fishermen if the deal is not done correctly. I've heard fishermen cooperative planned their motor issues front of port entries for the next two month, issues that will prevent them to move out the way and prevent England to sell fresh fish (at least around St-Malo, and Malouins are the less obtuse bretons imho, i will probably be worse west of there).

I fear this small issue of fishing will be a pain for the next decade

Nobody cares about fishing. It's a rounding error in any economic statistic. Its only use was as a nationalistic red herring, something that people actually understand and that could ultimately be sold as a win while giving the EU everything it wants on the matters that matter.

With fishing, I wonder how long will it take that it will return to some sort of status quo. That is EU companies will keep fishing and maybe the move the flag and subsidiary to UK, but there won't be any real new jobs in UK...

> scientists holding back data (global warming)

I spent ten hour a week, during 3 months (lookdown helped) parsing data for global warming as well as economic data for model like DICE and others. Which data was held back please? I would really like to know? I might have been fooled by the treasure trove of data publicly available.

Is it that the atmosphere overall have the same average temperature[0]? Its not held back. Is it that the low troposphere warming is causing the artic circle to break more often? Nah, i still found the raw data too.

What was really surprising to me about the climate change denial is that the most well-know of "solar forcing" was debunked by physics college students circa 2004, and that despite that (and the cycle ending a while ago) it is still the argument i found the most often. The better argument, low-troposhpere CO2 concentration have a low effect on radiation, i hav seen exactly twice. Without the corollary, a c02 surplus at the surface level take between 20 and 30 year to reach the hgh troposphere/low stratosphere, so every emission right now will have almost no effect until 2040. This data is not held back, and is discussed quite often too.

Did i miss something important?
